Russian Helicopters has produced a batch of Mi-171 helicopters for China General Aviation Service Company ordered under a contract signed in 2015, the company announced on 23 November.

The two helicopters have completed the full testing cycle at Ulan-Ude aviation plant and are ready to be shipped to China. The helicopters are equipped with an auxiliary power unit SAFIR, which provides high altitude launch capability, along with a rescue winch and an external sling that allows transport of bulky loads up to four tons.

The Мi-171s have a modified 'dolphin nose'.  Its modern navigation equipment includes satellite navigation and weather radar with a multi-function display that optimises the flight profile and increases security level. An additional fuel tank and a searchlight is installed inside a cargo compartment so that the right side sliding is enlarged.
