Dart Aerospace and Airbus Helicopters have designed and developed a quick release Heli-Utility Basket for the H145 aircraft, it was announced on 1 March.

The basket has already received a Supplemental Type Certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration, while the European Aviation Safety Agency validation is expected by quarter two of 2018.

The basket can transport up to 200lbs of cargo and features a self-locking lid mechanism to secure cargo during flight. A single person can attach or remove the bucket from its brackets in less than one minute.

The first unit has been provided to San Diego Gas and Electric.

Kathy Six, program manager, Airbus Helicopters, said: ‘Airbus foresees a strong need for the H145 basket to service the demands of the growing utility market for this aircraft. We are pleased Dart was able to successfully execute this project under the tight time constraints.’
