CHC AW189 operations to begin in Oz

8th November 2017 - 07:30 GMT | by The Shephard News Team

CHC Helicopter is set to begin flying three AW189 helicopters this month from its Karratha base in Western Australia, the company announced on 5 November.

The fleet will support Woodside Energy’s oil and gas operations on the North West Shelf, transporting up to 19 passengers at a time to Woodside’s installations.

According to CHC, the AW189 is the first large helicopter in Australia to be designed to MSG-3 processes, providing greater reliability and requiring fewer maintenance man-hours. It exceeds FAA and EASA Part 29 safety standards including the 50 min run-dry gearbox requirement.

Dave Balevic, SVP, engineering and operations at CHC Helicopter, said: ‘We continue to work with our customers to offer them the latest technology, supported by our global standards and processes.

‘The AW189 will be a great complement to our existing AW139 fleet. We have a history of success operating Leonardo products and look forward to setting new milestones with our new aircraft.’
