The Air Vehicles and MRO (AVMRO) unit of Kaman Aerosystems has received a three-year, $3.6 million contract to establish depot level maintenance capabilities for the Egyptian Air Force (EAF) SH-2G(E) helicopter programme, it announced on 13 July.

The contract, awarded by the US Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), includes one baseline and two follow-on option years. The depot capability will be established at the EAF’s Helwan Aviation Depot Workshop near Cairo.

Under the contract, the EAF will receive logistics, engineering and management services to maintain aircraft readiness, aircraft system readiness, and the integrated logistics support elements associated with the sustainment of the SH-2G(E) programme.

The EAF operates ten SH-2G(E) Super Seasprite helicopters that were upgraded under a modernisation programme in 2009, with a further seven SH-2G helicopters being acquired from NAVAIR under the Excess Defense Article (EDA) programme.

The Kaman SH-2G Super Seasprite helicopter can conduct utility, SAR, vertical replenishment, troop transport, surveillance, over the horizon targeting and anti-submarine warfare missions.
