Pratt & Whitney has certified AAR to enhance the US Army's contract for overhauling and upgrading its UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter Auxiliary Power Units (APUs), the company announced on 3 June.

The certification augments the work being performed by AAR under a five-year army contract that began in 2014. The original $23 million contract covers overhaul and upgrade work on 60 APUs from the army's Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama.

Robert Sopp, executive vice president, AAR Aircraft Component Services, said: 'AAR has been providing these services for APUs for our nation's military and to now receive approval from the OEM, coupled with the US Army's approval of our test cell, is a tremendous vote of confidence.

'We look forward to continued expansion of these services for APUs on other military and commercial platforms.'
