The US Coast Guard (USCG) has ordered a 35ft Long Range Interceptor-II (LRI-II) boat worth $1.1 million from MetalCraft Marine, the USCG announced on 23 April.

The LRI-II boat will be delivered to Pascagoula, Mississippi, in February 2019 along with standard delivery items including training and trailer.

The vessel will be deployed on the eighth national security cutter, Midgett, which is scheduled to be delivered in the second quarter of 2019.

The LRI-II can reach a top speed of 40 knots and is designed for search and rescue operations, law enforcement, ports, waterways and coastal security and defence readiness missions.

A total of ten LRI-IIs have been ordered by the coast guard to date; seven of these have been delivered.
