USCG in budgetary dilemma
The US Coast Guard (USCG) continues to lack a clear fleet modernisation plan and it remains unclear if the service can afford all the new assets it requires, a new report has stated.
There are also continued concerns that the new icebreaker being built for the USCG will not be delivered to its accelerated schedule.
The issues have been made apparent by the US Government Accountability Office (GAO) in a report titled ‘Limited Strategic Planning Efforts Pose Risk for Future Acquisitions’ which reaffirms the recommendations of a 2014 report to develop a 20-year fleet modernisation plan.
