Thomas Hudner completes acceptance trials

The US Navy has successfully completed acceptance trials of its 36th Arleigh Burke destroyer, the future USS Thomas Hudner, NAVSEA announced on 4 May.

The ship, being built by General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, completed acceptance trials after spending a day underway off the coast of Maine.

The ship underwent a series of pier-side and underway demonstrations for the US Navy's Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV). During the trials, various onboard systems were tested including navigation, damage control, mechanical and electrical systems, combat systems, communications and propulsion applications.

Thomas Hudner is equipped with the AEGIS Baseline 9 combat system which includes an integrated air and missile defence capability, incorporating ballistic missile defence 5.0 capability upgrade and naval integrated fire control-counter air.
