The US Navy has accepted delivery of two Freedom-variant Littoral Combat Ships (LCS), the future USS Sioux City and USS Wichita.

Sioux City and Wichita are the 14th and 15th LCS to be delivered to the navy, and the sixth and seventh of the Freedom variant to join the fleet.

Both ships will be commissioned later in 2018; Sioux City in Annapolis, Maryland, and Wichita in Jacksonville, Florida.

LCS is a modular, reconfigurable ship, designed to meet requirements for surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare and mine countermeasure missions in the littoral region. An interchangeable mission package is embarked on each LCS and provides the primary mission systems in one of these areas.
