UDT Asia: China commissions MCMV

China commissioned a fifth Wozang-class mine countermeasures vessel (MCMV) on 29 December 2016, the type distinguished by the fact that it is designed to operate with smaller unmanned surface vehicles (USV).

Christened Donggang (pennant number 814), the 575t mothership is designed to hunt and destroy various types of underwater mines with the help of three optionally manned/remote-controlled USV minesweepers. Each of these Wonang-class (Type 529) inshore USVs weighs 100t.

In addition, the MCMV embarks remotely operated vehicles for mine location, identification and destruction.

The People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) has allocated the Wozang-class (Type 082 II) MCMV
