Among Saab’s displays at the forthcoming Undersea Defence Technology conference and exhibition will be a full size model of its new lightweight torpedo (SLWT), with the system currently ordered by both Sweden and Finland navies.

In a recent statement, the company said that it is looking for its third customer for the SLWT while the testing programme remained on course.

‘We recently concluded a successful test campaign with our first prototype torpedo that fulfilled all set requirements. The development now continues with addition of more advanced functionality and step by step with more equipment being added and verified,’ said Stefan Sjogren, programme director of lightweight torpedoes at Saab.

Other systems showcased during the event will include the Swordfish MPA in addition to its 3D imaging technology – the UWSLAM System – which provides real time 3D reconstruction of an underwater environment.

‘Within the undersea naval defence, this technology can be used to create highly detailed 3D maps, search for mines, identify objects, and even navigate,’ said Jimmy Jonsson, image processing specialist.

Saab business area Kockums will also be on site providing details about the A26 submarine programme and MCMV capabilities.
