Trelleborg Offshore has announced the development of a complete range of International Association of Lighthouse Authorities (IALA) compliant navigation buoys and lights. The range has been specifically developed to provide a credible alternative to high maintenance steel hulled and rotationally moulded buoys, according to Trelleborg Offshore.

The range includes lateral marks, cardinal marks, special marks, safe water and isolated danger marks, constructed with an ‘elastomer hull and an aluminium superstructure to provide a low maintenance, UV stable solution which is lighter than steel, but which still offers excellent stability and all round impact damage resistance’.

According to the company, traditional steel hulls cause damage to UVs, and the new plastic, rotationally moulded buoys are an alternative for ports and harbours and the offshore marine industry. The buoy diameters range between 1.25m to 3m (49.2.1 inches to 118.1 inches) and are available in a selection of configurations and colours, as well as a choice of power and mooring options.

The company says they have received significant orders from a number of major UK ports, with deliveries scheduled for 2012.
