TADTE 2019: Taiwan’s LPD scheduled for completion in 2022
The Republic of China Navy’s (ROCN) new LPD, being acquired under Project Hung Yun, began construction in May. The vessel will mark the start of more extensive missions by the ROCN in the future.
Hung Yun was the codename for successful operations by the ROCN’s Amphibious Fleet during the Second Taiwan Strait Crisis. Reusing this name is thus symbolic for the ROC Navy.
The first-of-class will be completed in 2022. Measuring 153m long and with a 10,000t displacement, the LPD seems to be a smaller version of the USN’s San Antonio class. The LPD design provides for increased troop
