Sweden and Finland close on IOC for combined task force
The chief of the Royal Swedish Navy is hopeful that an initial operating capability (IOC) of the joint Sweden and Finland combined naval task group (SFTNG) could be declared by the end of the year.
Operating mainly in littoral and archipelagic regions of the Baltic Sea, the Royal Swedish Navy (RSN) has in recent years been increasing its cooperation with regional forces and now demonstrating its capabilities in ‘full spectrum’ exercises.
Providing an overview of the forces activities in recent years, RAdm Jens Nykvist, chief of staff, said that there was a steady drumbeat in maritime activity in regional waters.
