South Korea launches second LPH

Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction (HHIC) ceremonially launched a landing platform helicopter (LPH) – the second Dokdo-class amphibious assault ship – in Busan on 14 May.

In the future the 14,500t vessel will be christened ROKS Marado and it will carry pennant number 6112 when commissioned into the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN) by the end of 2020.

The Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) is in charge of the project and there have been around 480 changes to the original design borne out of experience with ROKS Dokdo.

Technological improvements have been incorporated, as the first LPH
