Russian Navy to receive new corvette

The Russian Navy’s Pacific Fleet will introduce a multi-purpose guard ship in the second half of 2017, the Russian Ministry of Defence announced on 11 January.

The vessel, a Sovershenny corvette, will be tasked with a range of missions including anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare and artillery support for seaborne assault missions.

The guard ship, which has a length of more than 100 meters and displacement of 2,220 tonnes, is armed with Uran anti-ship missile system, Redut air defence missile complex, torpedos, large-calibre machine guns, and grenade launchers.
