Russia looking at hovercraft in latest step of Coast Guard Service renewal
The Russian Coast Guard Service is exploring the possibility for the purchase of up to 15 hovercraft that would be used to increase security patrols of its inland waters and maritime borders.
A Russian Cost Guard spokesperson told Shephard that implementation of this plan was of significant importance for Russia and its maritime security. A recent attack by purported North Korean fishermen conducting illegal, unreported, unregulated activities in the Sea of Japan left two Russian service personnel injured has highlighted the need for additional patrol platforms.
