Romania selects Gowind-class corvettes

Romania has selected Naval Group and Santierul Naval Constanta (SNC) to build four new Gowind-class multi-mission corvettes, to modernise the T22 frigates, and to create maintenance and training centres.

The Gowind-class design has already been chosen by several other countries, and the vessel and its onboard systems including the Setis combat management system offers a NATO-standard anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare and anti-air warfare capability.

Gowind will help Romania to carry out its strategic missions for NATO in the Black Sea, and will also strengthen European defence capabilities.

Naval Group and SNC will partner to ensure that Romania's sovereignty and autonomy is maintained, via Romanian shipyard SNC receiving the necessary know-how to support the complete life cycle of the corvettes, from building to maintenance and modernisation.
