IMDEX Asia: Rolls-Royce and Garden Reach agree MTU engine assembly

Rolls-Royce and Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) announced on 5 May an agreement on the final assembly of MTU series 4000 engines in India.

The 12V and 16V 4000 engines will be assembled in the government owned GRSE Diesel Engine Plant in Ranchi.

The decision to increase production in India is in line with the Make in India strategy, a government-led effort to increase FDI and indigenous manufacturing and comes after the 2015 Indian Naval Indigenisation Plan highlighted diesel engines in particular as requiring greater indigenisation.
