Raytheon wins P-8A ABA development contract
Raytheon has received a development contract to develop an open application-based architecture (ABA) for the US Navy's P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft.
The 27-month, $15.5 million contract will see the development of an ABA that allows mission commanders to quickly incorporate new and enhanced capabilities by adding third-party software applications.
Under this contract, Raytheon will deliver two prototype ABA systems, leverage unique expertise in software-based mission applications, services-oriented architecture and airborne COTS computing. The development work will be complete by March 2017.
Jerry Powlen, vice president of ISR systems, Raytheon, said: 'The goal is to use readily available technology to quickly upgrade the P-8A's warfighting capability.'
He added: 'This open systems architecture can easily be used for other domestic and international customers looking to affordably enhance their airborne platforms.'
