Progeny Systems has been awarded $115.7 million by the US Navy to upgrade the Mk-48 M7 Common Broadband Advanced Sonar System (CBASS) heavyweight torpedo.

This will include the delivery of: design details, engineering development models, proof-of-design units, proof-of-manufacturing units, low-rate initial production units, and factory test equipment.

Also included in this procurement are related engineering and hardware repair services and provisioned-items orders.

The contract includes options that if exercised would bring the cumulative value of the award to $186.6 million.

Work will be performed at various sites across the US, and is expected to be completed by February 2024, but if all options are exercised, work will continue through to August 2026.

FY19 navy research, development, test and evaluation funding of $5.8 million was allocated at time of award.

The contract was competitively procured via the Federal Business Opportunities website, and three offers were received.

The Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington, DC is the contracting body for the award.
