New naval vessel concepts appear in Taiwan
New designs appeared at the Kaohsiung International Maritime and Defense Expo from 27-30 September, including a multipurpose frigate cooperatively designed by the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST) and CSBC Corporation.
The 1,400t platform is 85m long and has a 13.1m beam. The light frigate would perform coastal patrol, short- and medium-range air defence and anti-surface warfare missions.
The lightweight inshore vessel’s multi-layered defence system features eight Hsiung Feng II (HF-2) anti-ship missiles, 16 TC-2N surface-to-air missiles, Sea Oryx missile system, 76mm main gun, triple torpedo launchers and XTR-102 weapon system to control two 20mm cannons.
