Navantia has signed contracts with Synergy Group and its subsidiary Estaleiro Ilha to assist in the construction programme for the Brazilian Navy's NAPA 500-Class Macaé patrol boats.

The contracts, which were announced by Navantia on 16 April, will see the company provide knowledge and best practices in various activities in the construction of these ships, which is currently ongoing at the premises of Estaleiro Ilha.

A team from Navantia will start working with both companies in Spain and Brazil shortly. This is part of a collaboration deal signed in April 2014 by Navantia and Synergy Group that set up the foundation for creating a defence company in Brazil owned by both companies. The main objective is to undertake projects for the navy that are classified as strategic for national defence.

According to Navantia, the contracts are an important step to consolidate its presence in the country and strengthen ties with the navy for future opportunities.
