Mordaunt outlines vision for the Royal Navy

On her two-week anniversary as UK Secretary of State for Defence, Penny Mordaunt, made her first speech during the First Sea Lord’s Sea Power Conference 2019, RUSI in London in which she announced the National Carrier Policy and emphasised her encouragement of British shipbuilding industry.

Mordaunt promised that she would not be restrained by the Treasury and would not be afraid to ask for more money for the MoD.

On her rallying cry to consider spending for the investment needed she said: ‘I cannot tell you that the Treasury will welcome that message…but the Treasury will hear this message.’
