IAI's Elta Systems has received a contract to supply four ELM-2248 MF-STAR multi-function digital radars for the Israeli Navy’s Sa’ar 6-class corvettes, IAI announced 26 February.

The contract has been awarded by the Systems Missiles and Space Group of IAI.

The AESA technology-based MF-STAR radars will be installed on the ship’s masts. AESA technology allows for faster threat alert response time, better accuracy and the ability to simultaneously track multiple and different targets.

The MF-STAR includes four conformal phased array S-band antennas, which provide 360° coverage. When confronted by an incoming threat, the radar provides relevant data to the entire weapon systems on board such as gunnery and surface-to-air missiles in order to deliver the proper response. Optical networking and antenna tile architecture makes the system significantly lighter than similar radars.

The radars will be used to protect the Israeli maritime domain and critical assets such as natural gas platforms against missiles, rockets and enemy aircraft.
