MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates (MDA) will continue to provide operation support for Canada's RADARSAT-2 ground systems, the company announced on 28 April. The agreement is valued at around $1.99 million and extends support until March 2016.

With this contract, the Canadian Department of National Defence has exercised its third renewal option for a contract originally signed with MDA in April 2013. It will see MDA continue supporting the east and west coast ground systems.

The RADARSAT-2 ground systems support the Polar Epsilon Near-Real Time Ship Detection (NRTSD) system. The NRTSD system delivers all-weather maritime surveillance of Canada's Arctic, Atlantic and Pacific oceans and includes global high-resolution surveillance capabilities to support deployed Canadian forces.
