Mauritius commissions FPV Valiant

The Mauritius National Coast Guard has commissioned its new Water Jet fast patrol vessel (FPV) CGS Valiant, in Port Louis, it was announced on 16 August 2017.

The 50m patrol vessel, built by India’s Goa Shipyard, is the second Water Jet FPV supplied by India to Mauritius. The Indian Navy oversaw construction of the ship and was involved in its trials, acceptance, and delivery.

The FPV is powered by three 2720KW diesel engines driving three independent water jets, and can reach a top speed of over 35 knots. It has a range of more than 1500 nautical miles with an endurance of seven days.

The vessel is designed for patrolling, anti-smuggling and anti-terrorist operations, and can support naval vessels as a coastal convoy escort and communication link..
