Maritime security company Mast and marine sonar systems provider Wesmar have partnered to provide security solutions for super yachts and the maritime industry in general, it was announced on 23 June.

Mast advises on, designs and installs security systems on marine installations, ships and yachts, while Wesmar develops marine sonar systems for security, navigation and fish detection to provide underwater surveillance and navigation.

In addition to addressing yacht safety at anchor or underway, Wesmar's systems can be permanently set up at harbour, port and marina entrances. This solution can now be offered to governments conducting port risk assessments.

Phil Cable, CEO, Mast , said: 'Global threats to assets and personnel operating in the maritime environment are complex and continually evolving. While obstacle avoidance is an age old navigational concern applicable in all waters, the ability to detect divers approaching while at anchor is a valuable capability in light of recent threats by terrorist organisations to conduct attacks on vessels in the Mediterranean and beyond.'

Bruce Blakey, president, Wesmar, said: 'Our sonar technology is used as a navigational tool for obstacle avoidance and other underwater threats. Our unique, high resolution display and user friendly interface provides the ability for vessels to easily detect and identify potential risks, and allows captains and crew adequate time to respond accordingly.'
