Marshall, Aerodata sign contract

Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group has received a contract from Aerodata to provide special mission role conversion engineering services in relation to the latter’s ATR-72 modification programme, it was announced on 4 April.

The services will include certification, manufacture and design of equipment to support the conversion of two Alenia Aermacchi ATR-72 500s into maritime surveillance aircraft. The role conversion modifications include installation of stores pylons, camera and self-protection equipment and radar.

Marshall will also be responsible for engineering of kits, fittings and fixtures to support the certification and integration of the equipment. The company will carry out the work at its headquarters in Cambridge, UK.

The two Alenia Aermacchi ATR-72 500 turboprop short-haul aircraft are scheduled to enter the navy service of one of Aerodata’s customers in 2018 and 2019. During the installation of the two aircraft programme, Marshall’s engineers will visit Aerodata’s facilities in Brauschwig, Germany. There is also a longer term prospect of converting two more aircraft.
