Kelvin Hughes details Australian deliveries
Kelvin Hughes has supplied coastal surveillance and vessel traffic service (VTS) radar sensors to a number of Australian ports to improve security and control of shipping, the company announced on 3 October.
Chevron, which operates oil and gas export facilities on Barrow Island in Western Australia, has received the SharpEye SBS-800 series radar. The radar was supplied under a contract won by AMS Group to upgrade the VTS system for Chevron’s oil and gas production activities.
The SBS-800 series features Doppler processing and enhanced pulse compression bringing clutter reduction (sea clutter removal) without removing the targets of interest such as shipping and smaller vessels in the area.
This capability extends to all ranges, and with tanker mooring for loading of oil via a submarine pipeline from the island storage tanks to the mooring 10km east of the island, this greatly enhances the safety of vessel traffic operating in the area, where the sea state is known to be high the year round.
For the Port of Melbourne in Victoria, Kelvin Hughes has supplied two SharpEye SBS-900 system coastal radar for VTS services.
Port Hedland located in the Pilbara region of Western Australia has ordered a SharpEye SBS-900 X-band radar as part of a complete VTS system. This will be installed by AMS in the third quarter of 2018 to improve vessel management.
