IMDEX 2013: More communication needed to contend with Asian security threats

Asia is to enter an ‘unpredictable era’ as powers rise and tensions within the region continue, which should lead to more communication between nations, an expert has observed.

Speaking at the International Maritime Security Conference in Singapore on 15 May, Barry Desker, dean of the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, said that modern day security threats that affect the seas tend to be unintentionally derived from issues such as social policy, politics and the economy.
