Hellenic Navy receives RHIBs from US Navy

7th November 2017 - 10:30 GMT | by The Shephard News Team

The US Navy has transferred four rigid-hulled inflatable boats (RHIB) to Greece’s Hellenic Navy, it was announced on 2 November.

The boats were transferred under an Excess Defense Articles (EDA) grant. The transfer will benefit the US Navy as it will now have a military partner that has boats fully interoperable with the equipment used by US harbor security at Naval Support Activity Souda Bay.

Commander Matt Zublic, assigned to the Office of Defence Cooperation in Athens, Greece, said that these RHIBs have been granted to the Hellenic Navy as the US Navy has received new security boats.

Zublic said: ‘It was in the best interest of the US to EDA grant these boats to the Hellenic Navy. They served the purpose of security patrols for the US Navy, now they will do the same for the Hellenic Navy.’
