OCCAR has announced the First Sea Going of the Italian Navy’s first Pattugliatori Polivalenti d'Altura (PPA)-class multipurpose offshore patrol ship.

The vessel undertook the journey in the Gulf of La Spezia on 12 November, 2019. Several platform systems and equipment installed on-board were set up and successfully tested.

Named Paolo Thaon di Revel, PPA1 is the first of class PPA in Light configuration. The vessel will continue sea trials until March 2021, and is set to be delivered to the Italian Navy in May 2021.

Seven PPAs are currently on order with Fincantieri. The first four ships are currently in the production stage. The second, also in Light configuration, will be named Francesco Morosini, and will be launched in March 2020.
