Dubai 2013: Javelin adopted for naval applications
The Lockheed Martin/Raytheon Javelin missile has been successfully fired from a Chemring Centurion naval launch system in the Salisbury Plain training area in the UK, it has emerged.
Speaking at the Dubai Air Show, Raytheon executives provided details of the October test, which is regarded as key step to proving the suitability of the Javelin weapon system against naval threats such as fast inshore attack craft (FIAC).
Michelle Lohmeier, Raytheon vice president of land warfare systems, said the integration of Javelin with the Centurion launchers follows work the company has done to develop the man-portable weapon into a vehicle-borne system.
