Discussions to end Northwood's Atalanta role imminent
Discussions to host the future headquarters of the EU’s Operation Atalanta counter-piracy mission off the Horn of Africa will likely take place next week in Brussels.
During a briefing on 5 May the EU’s high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, Federica Mogherini, said that it was a ‘very good signal of willingness’ that two of its member states had already put themselves forward to host the mission headquarters once the UK leaves the union.
At present, Operation Atalanta is headquartered in Northwood in the UK, one of few European facilities that are able to coordinate such a mission.
