China launches two new destroyers
The Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Company in Liaoning Province simultaneously launched two Type 055 destroyers, a new class destined for the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN), on 3 July.
The launch of two capital warships at the same time reflects the voracious output of China’s naval shipyards.
The first two hulls in this class were launched in June 2017 and April 2018 respectively at the Jiangnan Changxingdao shipyard near Shanghai. Neither has yet begun sea trials. Furthermore, two more hulls are believed to be under construction.
