CCG monster deploys to SCS

The China Coast Guard (CCG) has delivered a statement of intent with its deployment of the largest coast guard vessel in the world to the South China Sea, after it was commissioned last month.

Its estimated displacement of around 12,000t ensures it outclasses most naval warships in the region. It even outdoes a US Navy Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer in terms of displacement.

Commissioned with pennant number 3901, it is the second ship in its class. Sister ship CCG 2901 was commissioned last year for service in the East China Sea.
