AUVSI 2017: Navy borrows SOF technology model
The US Navy is borrowing a page from the accelerated technology acquisition model utilised by United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) through the establishment of a new rapid development and test activity.
'This is something new that we have done in PEO U&W [Program Executive Office for Unmanned Aviation and Strike Weapons],' offered Robert Kimble, deputy PEO for unmanned aviation in that office.
Providing a technical briefing during AUVSI Xponential, Kimble explained: 'You have probably heard about what they do at USSOCOM with SOFWERX. Our iteration of that is IMPAX – for Innovation and Modernisation PAX.'
