Wizz Air opens new Timisoara base
Wizz Air has launched its newest base in Timisoara, which has become the airline’s 10th operating base in the network and third in Romania.
Currently the company deploys one brand new Airbus A320, employs 33 local crew and flies to Rome, London Luton, Dortmund, Milan Bergamo, Barcelona, Paris Beauvais, Valencia and Venice Treviso offering the largest route network from the Banat region.
This expansion is in line with Wizz Air's earlier announced plans to double its presence in Romania and become the dominant player in the country this year. The airline claims leadership in the low-cost, low-fare sector in Romania with 34% market share already in February.
Concurrently, Wizz Air has committed further capacity growth to Prague. The company will base a second A320 there in July, increase frequencies on Rome Fiumicino, Brussels Charleroi, Paris Beauvais and Eindhoven and launch new flights to Naples, Madrid and Malmö.
József Váradi, CEO of Wizz Air announced the news in Prague on the day Wizz Air launched flights from the Czech capital to London Luton, Rome, Milan Bergamo and Brussels Charleroi.
Flights to Paris Beauvais and Eindhoven will commence concurrently with Wizz Air's base opening in Prague Ruzyne Airport on 27 June. The airline has already started local recruitment for crewing the first Airbus A320 and will shortly start to hire staff to fly the second aircraft.
Wizz Air will have a team of 70 local employees in Prague.
