Thales is to supply its TopSeries audio/video-on-demand IFE system for installation in ten Airbus A330s operated by China Southern Airlines. First delivery is scheduled for March next year.
Irvine, California-based Thales says that the commitment from China Southern means that it has now placed TopSeries with all of China’s leading carriers. The China Southern equipment will be supported from a Thales main service centre in Beijing. Supplier and airline are currently negotiating technical support and content management programmes.
China Southern’s selection of TopSeries comes as a surprise to industry observers. The carrier has specified Panasonic’s eX2 for the five Airbus A380s that it has on order (Inflight Online, December 3, 2008) and for ten Boeing 787s.
