Singapore Technologies Aerospace (ST Aerospace) has announced that, together with its joint venture partner Xiamen Aviation Industry Company (XAICO), it has conducted the groundbreaking ceremony of its new engine facility to be located at a 28,500 m² plot of land near Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport. Construction began immediately thereafter and the facility is expected to be completed and in operation around mid 2010.
The facility, registered as “ST Aerospace Technologies (Xiamen) Company Limited” (STATCO), will have a total investment of $78m and will initially provide MRO and total support services for the CFM56-5B and CFM56-7B engines that power respectively, the Airbus A320 family and the Boeing 737NG family.
With an expected capacity of 300 engines per year and a test cell that will be rated at 90,000 lb thrust, STATCO will complement and enhance ST Aerospace’s subsidiary, ST Aerospace Engines Pte Ltd, in Singapore.
ST Aerospace signed a joint venture agreement with XAICO to set up the engine MRO facility with the former owning an 80% stake of STATCO, while XAICO owns 20%.
