SR Technics wins 157 easyJet A319 checks
SR Technics and easyJet have signed an agreement covering 157 maintenance checks for the carrier’s Airbus A319 fleet. The checks, which will each take two weeks, will all be conducted at SR Technics Zurich between mid-March 2009 and summer 2015.
The work will be performed as IL (Intermediate Layover) checks, a new and innovative type of check jointly developed by SR Technics and Airbus which optimally coordinates the various tasks involved. For example, the aircraft is repainted while it is receiving its check and any maintenance required.
Thanks to this approach, an IL check will take only 14 days to complete. This is less than half the 30 or more days that are currently required to perform the traditional heavy maintenance visit (HMV) which all aircraft undergo every six years. The shortened hangar times will substantially increase the availability of these aircraft for easyJet’s operations.
SR Technics is currently establishing a dual HMV line in Zurich to perform the new checks as efficiently as possible. This will enable two IL checks to be conducted simultaneously. In addition, a new logistics concept is also being adopted to ensure seamless materials provision, making production flows even more efficient.
“We are delighted that we have been able to convince easyJet of the benefits of our innovative new maintenance concept,” says Helmut Himmelreich, SR Technics’ senior executive vice-president Aircraft Services. “In tough economic times like the present, it is all the more essential that we offer our customers solutions which deliver genuine added value. We are convinced that our new IL check concept will set new industry benchmarks.”
