Penang becomes AirAsia hub with direct Hong Kong service

AirAsia will expand its route network with the inclusion of another international flight from Penang, this time to Hong Kong.

The new service which is set to begin on 31 July 2009 and is AirAsia’s sixth international service from Penang after Singapore, Bangkok, Medan, Jakarta, Macau and third international service from Hong Kong after Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok.

AirAsia is establishing Penang as its eighth hub after Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, Bandung, Bali, Jakarta, Bangkok and a ‘virtual hub’ in Singapore .

Flights will depart Penang at 06:00 and arrive in Hong Kong at 09:40, with the return flights leaving Hong Kong at 10:20 and arriving in Penang at 14:05. The service will initially operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

AirAsia is also adding a second daily frequency between Penang and Singapore. Flights leave Penang at 15.05 and arrive at 16.20 in Singapore. The return flights leave Singapore at 16.45 and land in Penang at 18.00.
