Lufthansa Technik (LHT) Switzerland has opened its new VIP cabin interior facility, directly adjoining the company's aircraft maintenance hangar in Basel.

About SFr 4 million have been invested in the state-of-the-art cabin interior shop, which will be used for cabin refurbishment and modification of VIP aircraft types such as Boeing Business Jets (BBJ) and Airbus Corporate Jets (ACJ).

In only four months the new 3,500 sq m building has been built at the Basel site. "Thanks to the excellent support of the local building companies we were able to meet the project's ambitious time frame," said Rainer Lindau, CEO Lufthansa Technik Switzerland.

The new VIP Cabin Services team will consist of 30 highly-qualified technicians. Many of them have already been trained on the job at Lufthansa Technik in Hamburg. Specialised staff has been recruited for the cabin interior work and important interfaces to Hamburg have been established, especially in the field of cabin design, engineering and inflight entertainment systems.

Lufthansa Technik Switzerland has now reached the final stage of becoming Lufthansa Technik's Competence Center for narrowbody VIP and executive jets.
