Indo Defence 2016: Protecting Natuna
With the increased focus on South China Sea disputes and alleged illegal fishing by Chinese fishing vessels, the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) have begun expanding military infrastructure on the island of Pulau Natuna.
These facilities include aircraft bunkers and UAV hangars at Ranai Airport, a submarine pen at Tanjung Sekalung, and barracks and facilities for a battalion-sized army force.
Indonesia is also committed to deploying the latest hardware to the island, including new Boeing AH-64E Apaches, Oerlikon Skyshield 35mm air defence guns and Lockheed Martin F-16C fighters.
Indonesian reports also suggest the potential deployment of a Weibel MFSR-2100
