Horizon Air reports December 2008 and annual traffic

Horizon Air reports a slight increase in its load factor to 72.8% in December 2008, compared to 72.4% in December 2007, on a 21.8% decline in capacity (ASMs) compared to the prior-year period. Horizon says its operations were also adversely affected by the weather in December and reports that 53.6% of its flights arrived on time in December 2008, a 13 percentage point decrease compared to the 66.6% reported in December 2007. Passengers carried in December 2008 numbered 532,000, a 16.5% decrease on the 2007 figure of  637,000.

Over the full year, Horizon's revenue passenger miles (RPMs) dropped to 2,635 million from 2,918 million in 2007, a 9.7% decrease. Available seat miles (ASMs) also fell, to 3,617 million, a 9.1% decrease over 2007's figure of 3,978 million. The airline carried 7,390,000 revenue passengers, down 2.1% from 7,552,000 in 2007. The load factor for 2008 was 72.9%, compared with 73.4% on 2007.
