Gogo installation complete on AirTran fleet
AirTran Airways now has Gogo Inflight Internet from Aircell on all 136 of its aircraft, following a major installation programme.
The airline is the first major carrier to equip its entire fleet with Wi-Fi, which allows business travellers to connect to the internet and corporate e-mail and network systems (virtual private networks). Wi-Fi also enables unlimited entertainment options to leisure travellers, including surfing the internet, instant messaging, updating social networking sites or any other tasks that can be carried out online on the ground.
"Promise made, promise delivered," remarked Bob Fornaro, AirTran's chairman, president and CEO. "When you get onboard an AirTran Airways jet, you know exactly what you're going to get – an assigned seat on a full-sized, new Boeing jet with business class, a friendly crew, complimentary XM Satellite Radio and now Wi-Fi. It's that consistent, low-cost, high-quality experience that sets us apart from our competitors."
To show off the capabilities of Wi-Fi, the airline hosted comedian Mark Malkoff onboard throughout the month of June. While setting the Guinness World Record for most flight segments flown on a commercial airliner in 30 days, Malkoff used Wi-Fi to stay connected to family, friends and fans.
