Frontier and Lynx traffic reported for June and first half of 2009
Frontier Airlines Holdings has announced preliminary traffic results for June 2009 for both its mainline operation and its wholly-owned subsidiary, Lynx Aviation.
For the mainline service, revenue passenger miles (RPMs) decreased by 13.1% to 804,407,000 from 925,912,000 and capacity, measured by available seat miles (ASMs) was down 14.9% to 903,816,000 from 1,061,901,000 for the same period last year. This resulted in a record load factor of 89.0%, an increase of 1.8 points from June 2008's 87.2%. During the month, the airline carried 894,991 passengers, a 10.7% decrease from the 1,002,329 carried in the same period last year.
In the first half of the year (1H09), Frontier's RPMs fell by 17.7% to 4,198,558,000 from 5,103,402,000 in 1H08. Capacity was cut by 15.7% to 5,307,468,000 from 6,298,717,000 for the respective periods. The load factor dropped by 1.9 pp to 79.1% from 81.0%. Passengers carried in 1H09 totalled 4,657,870, down 12.2% on the 5,307,060 carried in 1H08.
Lynx Aviation's results for June 2009 show that RPMs increased by 7.1% to 35,660,000 from 33,304,000 and capacity was up 6.0% to 51,692,000 from 48,745,000 in June 2008. This resulted in a load factor for June 2009 of 69.0%, an increase of 0.7 points over June 2008's 68.3%. During the month, Lynx carried 107,284 passengers, a 10.7% increase year-on-year from 96,947 in June 2008.
For the half-year, RPMs dropped by 4.6% to 163,740,000 from 171,679,000 in 1H08. ASMs grew 1.5% to 285,032,000 from 280,933,000 for the respective periods. This resulted in a 1H09 load factor of 57.5%, a fall of 3.6 pp from the 61.1%achieved in 1H08. Passengers carried numbered 478,582 in 1H09, compared with 437,619 in 1H08, a 9.4% increase.
