WestJet and its Board of Directors have announced a change to the role of executive chairman of the Board. Effective immediately, former CEO Clive Beddoe (left) will hold the position of chairman of the Board of Directors. The role will no longer carry the title executive chairman. This change reflects the final transitional step of Beddoe relinquishing the executive role to Sean Durfy, the airline's president and chief executive officer (right).

Lead director of the Board, Allan Jackson commented, "Clive has been a tremendous asset for WestJet in this role. It allowed for a very smooth and effective transition period for Sean. This new role will still allow WestJet and the board to benefit from Clive's experience and counsel."

Beddoe himself remarked, "I am confident that the team is in place that allows me to change the scope of my role to that of chairman. This move will bring balance between the needs of the airline and its board with my desire to move more responsibility to Sean and his executive vice-presidents. I'm proud of our achievements over the last 13 years, and I believe we are well positioned for the future and continued healthy growth."
