Combined March and 1Q09 traffic reported for SkyWest and ASA

SkyWest, Inc. has released the combined traffic figures for its two airline subsidiaries, SkyWest Airlines and Atlantic Southeast Airlines (ASA) during March 2009 and the first quarter of the year.

The company reported a 10.3% decrease in revenue passenger miles (RPMs) for March, to 1,399,680,581 from 1,559,990,124 in March 2008. Available seat miles (ASMs) decreased 8.5% compared to the same period last year – the respective figures being 1,802,889,960 and 1,969,952,074. Load factor was down 1.6 percentage points (pp) to 77.6% compared with 79.2% for the same period last year. Passenger boardings for March totalled 2,797,007 a 6.9% decrease from March 2008's 3,003,889.

Over the first quarter (1Q09), the load factor held steady, just 0.2 pp down to 75.0% from 75.2% in 1Q08. The resulted from RPMs falling by 8.2% to 3,849,527,124 from 4,194,329,011 year-on-year for the quarter. ASMs were cut by 8.0% to 5,134,722,778 from 5,578,578,966. Passengers carried in 1Q09 numbered 7,633,909, a 5.5% decrease against 1Q08's figure of 8,076,331.

SkyWest Airlines operates as United Express, Delta Connection and Midwest Connect carriers, while ASA operates only for Delta Connection.
